Milk Money Grant

Shaan shares a story about creating a small grant program called the Milk Money Grant through their crypto newsletter, Milk Road.

"When we were doing the Milk Road, we realized that in crypto there was a lot of talk about Web3 changing everything, but nobody had actually built any of these decentralized apps. So we came up with an idea to create our own little grant called the Milk Money Grant.

We said, 'This is not enough to get rich, but it's a little bit of milk money.' It was enough where you could justify spending 2 or 3 months on a project. We offered 1 ETH, which at the time was maybe 2 or 3 grand.

We had over 2,000 submissions. People could build whatever they wanted as long as it was some use case or application of crypto. We ended up picking 10 or 12 people, giving away about $36,000 total from our ad revenue.

The best part was we got to meet these people. They were super interesting, young, high-caliber individuals building really interesting things. Even though they were probably already making more than 2-3 grand in their jobs, it felt like a Rhodes scholarship. It gave them an excuse to scratch an itch and build something they wanted to see built.

It was a fantastic experience, honestly really awesome. It's something I want to do again."
