Maker Schedule Blocks
Share
A time management system focused on creating long, uninterrupted blocks of time for deep, focused work instead of fragmented schedules filled with meetings.
Manager's Schedule vs Maker's Schedule
-
Manager Schedule:
- Filled with back-to-back meetings (9am, 9:30am, 10:30am, etc.)
- Leads to overwhelm and stress
- Results in "busy work" without meaningful progress
- Default schedule most people fall into, especially in corporate jobs
-
Maker Schedule:
- Long uninterrupted blocks of time (2.5-3 hours minimum)
- Usually scheduled in morning hours
- Includes breaks between blocks for lunch/exercise/walking
- Optional third block in evening for high performers
- Enables flow states and deep work
Benefits of Maker Schedule
- Allows getting into flow states
- Enables completion of whole projects without interruption
- Better for creative work and problem-solving
- More productive use of same number of hours
- Ideal for:
- Engineers coding
- Writers working on books
- Content creators making videos
- Anyone doing creative or deep thinking work
Implementation
- Block out large chunks of uninterrupted time
- Protect these time blocks from meetings and distractions
- Schedule breaks between deep work sessions
- Avoid the "zebra calendar" (striped with many small time blocks)
- Focus on one significant task during each block
