AI Basketball Cameras

Shaan shares a story about how his San Francisco tech basketball league adopted innovative AI camera technology.

"I play in this basketball league in San Francisco called SF Tech Hoops, run by Ruben Thorenberg. He's been hosting it for 10 years. For a long time, Ruben ran the league with real heart - making teams, providing jerseys, referees, scoreboards, and writing detailed email recaps with GIFs every week.

He used to film games by setting up two tripods with iPhones on each side, trying to capture highlights afterward. But he just bought this game-changing AI-based camera called Veo. It's one smart camera on a tripod that tracks the ball at all times across the court. It uploads everything to the cloud, live streams the games so friends and family can watch, and even tries to cut highlights and keep track of stats.

My brother-in-law, who has a kid playing competitive soccer, told me 'Bro, it's on every field - you can't go to youth soccer now and not see these cameras.' The company charges about $1,000 for the hardware and $130 per month for the service. I predict every venue is going to have these - every field, every court, for every sport. Whether it's tennis, wrestling, or any fringe sport, there's always people who want to watch - family, friends, athletes, and coaches."
