Branson's Connection Method

Dan Porter shares a story about how Richard Branson connected with employees at Virgin Mobile through authentic storytelling.

"I remember going to this meeting at Virgin Mobile in Canada. Branson wanted to talk to all the people in the phone room, the customer support people - and people just don't do that. He basically tells them this story about when he lost his virginity, no pun intended. It was a very funny story where he humanizes himself and he's just this regular guy.

He's not talking to the C-suite, he's talking to all people who answer the phone. They leave that thing and they think 'fucking love Richard Branson, he is the man.' It's just charisma, it's just different for each of them and it's very rooted in what their brand is. Their brand is extremely clear and articulated, but it's clearly they've understood how to make who they are - they're not trying to be anyone they aren't."
