Start With iPhone Headphones

A story about how Sam and Shaan started their podcast with basic equipment versus others who wait for professional setups.

"When we started, I mean you rented a studio at first, but then it was just you and I using our iPhone headphones in a shitty closet. We were so close together that anytime I talked your mic picked it up, anytime you talked my mic picked up.

In the photo from back then, I'm hunched over with my glasses on, didn't wear my contacts, still wearing my jacket because I just walked over from my office. I wasn't trying to dress up or 'act like where you want to be' - I just figured none of the video stuff matters, all that matters is the audio.

We really often just used the iPhone and an audio file. There was even one time where we literally just used a speaker phone on an iPhone. Now we have fancy mics, but back then we just started with what we had. And it worked - when our episodes first came out, they took off right away."
