Munger's Door-to-Door Partnership

Andrew Wilkinson shares a story about Charlie Munger's unexpected real estate partnership with a door-to-door religious salesman.

"Chris and I were having dinner with Charlie Munger one night, and suddenly this guy bursts into the room saying 'Charlie, I'm doing a deal right now, I need to know an answer to something.' This guy, about 30 years old, starts rattling off questions about interest rates and doors. Charlie asks a couple questions, says 'okay good cool,' and the guy leaves.

Charlie then explains that this was a neighborhood kid, a Hasidic Jew who tried to convert him to Judaism 20 years ago going door-to-door with bibles. They ended up becoming friends, Charlie mentored him, and started backing him on real estate deals. Now they own a billion-dollar portfolio of Los Angeles apartments together. And Charlie started doing this when he was 90 years old - it was his 90-year-old side hustle."
