Lincoln's Unsent Letters
Share
Sam shares a story about how Lincoln managed conflict through letter writing.
"Lincoln would do this thing where he would write an angry letter to someone. One time he wrote a scathing letter to someone and he didn't send it. The reason he did that was because one time he talked badly about this guy, and the guy challenged him to a duel - which was a fight to the death.
Lincoln was like 'I'm not doing that, that's insane. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.' After that, Lincoln said 'I'm not going to criticize people ever again.' Instead, he would write these letters where he would completely bitch them out and then just not send them. He said that makes me feel better."
