FarmCon's Word-of-Mouth Growth
Share
Kevin Van Trump shares how his agricultural conference FarmCon grew organically from a small gathering to a major industry event.
"It started off just myself and probably 30 or 40 friends, traders, and investors. We'd get together once a year, drink some beers and tell each other what our favorite trades or investments were. They loved coming to Kansas City because it was kind of an anomaly - they were used to being on the coast of New York or California.
They would start to invite their friends, and we all had investments in land, bigger land investments. Different people started coming - hunting and fishing guys, people who owned big farms. They were flying their private planes in. Then we just kind of blew up as they started telling more and more of their friends. Now we're selling out most everywhere we have it.
We'll sell out whatever capacity they give us at the hotel every year. This year we're charging like $1200 per ticket."
