Dog Walking Builds Mentorship

Sam Parr shares how he built an unexpected relationship with Tim Ferriss that started through walking their dogs in the same San Francisco neighborhood.
"I met Tim Ferriss because he lived near me in San Francisco and we would walk our dogs at the same time and just talk about neighborhood stuff. A few weeks after we first started talking, I get an email from Tim saying 'Hey, I know what The Hustle is, it looks really cool. Could we meet and get dinner? I want to ask you about email because I want to start a newsletter.'
When we got to dinner, he goes 'Oh you're the dog owners guy! You're the same guy!' I never told him what I did for work when we would walk our dogs together because I didn't want to bother him - he was like a celebrity to me and I didn't want to ruin that relationship.
It was awesome that this guy wanted to meet with me. He was like 'What you guys are doing is so smart, so innovative.' I was like 'It's not that interesting' and he's like 'No, it is.' He bought into me and believed in me. That was such a big deal to me that he gave me the time of day. Just even just at dinner, it was game-changing. I was like 'I'm the man, I'm the best, there is no one better than me' and I had that energy because of that meeting."
