Milk Road Persistence Pays

A story about how Tiny (Andrew) successfully acquired Milk Road by staying professional and persistent after an initial deal fell through.

"When we sold the Milk Road, we tried to sell the business and walked away from these guys at the last minute. If I'm them, I would think 'oh hate those guys, screw them,' but instead they were super professional about it. They were like 'okay no problem, sounds like you want to go a different direction.'

They hung around the hoop. A month later, Andrew says 'hey I didn't see any announcement, like no deal went through?' We were like 'no, we decided not to do it for this and this reason.' He's like 'well, we're still interested.'

I was like wow, that was so different than how I would have done that. So we made it a practice whenever we're buying businesses: a) don't get personally offended when it happens and b) schedule the automated reminder a month or 3 months later to follow back up and just check-in and say 'hey is there still an opportunity here? We still like the business - we liked it then, we like it more now. If there's still an opportunity, let us know.'"
